iConference 2013 | Call For Participation

iConference 2013 is an excellent venue to share your work and collaborate with others who share your passion and research interests. In response to requests for more varied opportunities to participate, we are offering several new participation opportunities this year. Specifically, in addition to the usual Papers of 8-10 pages, we are also seeking Notes of up to 4 pages that reflect early and partial results. Also, our new Research Paper Development Roundtable provides increased opportunities for junior faculty.

The new Social Media Expo is an opportunity for iSchools student teams to explore and showcase technological solutions that leverage social media. Meanwhile, the Doctoral Dissertation Competition will recognized outstanding work being done at the iSchools.

The iSchool Caucus seeks to maximize the visibility and influence of its member schools, and their interdisciplinary approaches to harnessing the power of information and technology, and maximizing the potential of humans. In order to help ensure free and open accessibility, the proceedings of iConference 2013 will be published in the open access Illinois Digital Environment for Access to Learning and Scholarship (IDEALS). To learn more, read the IDEALS deposit agreement.

Research Paper Development Roundtable

This new iConference submission track is for researchers developing manuscripts for submission as journal articles. The goals of this track are to provide a forum for interactive development of research papers, enable a discussion of current research ideas, provide a clear path to journal publication, and increase collaboration opportunities for junior faculty. Papers reporting work in progress and late breaking research are welcome.

Review Process: Authors submit an extended abstract (300-500 words) describing the paper idea by August 1, 2012. Copy should be double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point font, no title page. Submission will be in PDF format. Abstracts will be reviewed and evaluated by a group of iSchool Associate Deans for Research and accepted abstracts will be organized into the conference program. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified of acceptance by early October and then will develop a full draft paper to be submitted approximately 5 weeks prior to the conference (January 7, 2013). All conference attendees will be able to view the extended abstract.

At the conference: The roundtable sessions will be discussion-oriented events with attendees and participants constructively engaging in discussions of each of the papers. Each author will be assigned to a roundtable session that will include 3-4 other authors. One or more discussants will be assigned to each group and will prepare a short summary and constructive critique to start discussion on each paper. Each author will review the other papers in the group in advance to offer constructive advice for further developing the paper.

Visit our Research Paper Development Roundtable page for additional information.

NOTE: The Research Paper Development Roundtable is now CLOSED to submissions.

Deadlines:

  • Submission: Extended abstracts due August 1, 2012
  • Notification: Early October
  • Full draft due: January 7, 2013

Research Paper Development Roundtable Chair: ., University of Pittsburgh.
